Hold fast to dreams

For if dreams die

Life is a broken-winged bird

That cannot fly.

Hold fast to dreams

For when dreams go

Life is a barren field

Frozen with snow.

I think you can also show success in life by in how much you mean to people. Something funny happened to me and I thought "I must tell Jill this, she is the only person who would understand! " I know Helen has missed not seeing you as much recently too.

Hi Jill,

I just returned from Paris as well. You made me laugh with your Proust on Substack conceit. He would have been checking his dashboard relentlessly and been furious that so few people "liked" his 10,000 word posts. I liked the way you changed "Lost Time" into "Wasted Time."

I don't see my career in finance as time wasted or lost. But I find myself just starting to write at age 62 so there's that sacrifice.

I've read all of Proust just once. I've read Swann's Way many times, and I'm convinced you can get the artistic value and enjoyment of Proust from that single, self-contained volume. Plus the latest translation is by Lydia Davis.

You’re very lucky you don’t feel it was time wasted. 🙏 Will tentatively consider adding Swann to the pile… there’s a lot ahead of it though. Hope you had a grand time in Paris!
